SUNSHIP III
Perception and Choice for the Journey Ahead
Named after the third planet from our nearest star, SUNSHIP III is an earth education program for 12-13 year olds.
Already underway in several countries, SUNSHIP III hooks teenagers and pulls them into the same dynamic learning experiences that the institute has become famous for creating. However, this time the activities are aimed at a more sophisticated level of learning and
geared toward today’s youth. How do you motivate a 12 year old? We spent 10 years working on the answer, and in the end it was simple: Treat them as adults.
This powerful program is about seeing things in a new way and making choices for a new lifestyle.
What Is The Goal Of The SUNSHIP III Program?
The goal of the SUNSHIP III program is to turn out youngsters who possess some basic ecological understandings and good feelings about the earth and its life, and will undertake not only to live more lightly themselves, but to share their insights and behaviors with others.
SUNSHIP III participants:
- Understand how energy and materials tie all life together
- Experience good feelings when they’re in touch with nature
- Undertake personal lifestyle changes in order to begin living more in harmony with the natural world
- Help others increase their understanding of, feeling for, and harmony with the earth and its life
Obviously, in three days we can only begin this task; much of it will have to be carried out back at school with the guidance and support of the classroom teacher.
SS111- The Program
An initial 3-day “Commencement” serves as a powerful springboard for what the participants will continue working on back at home and school.
SUNSHIP 111 features; P/C, a twin-headed character representing both our harmonious and disruptus sides; Earth Woman, an old storyteller who sets the teenagers off on a journey of exploration and discovery; Solarians, a measure of sunlight energy that must be spent for every action taken; Billy’s Day, a teenager with a lot of energy-intense habits he doesn’t see; at Mario’s Pizza Parlour you can order any topping you like, as long as you have enough Solarians; and the Endangered Species Ceremony, an early morning rendezvous for the earth’s threatened animals.
