EARTH EDUCATION

The Earth is endangered by its human passengers because of human impact and lifestyles which are not in harmony with the systems of life on the planet.  We believe that this is partly due to a lack of understanding of basic ecological concepts (how the planet works) and our inability to develop a strong relationship with the natural world.

Earth education focuses on basic ecological processes, helping people to understand their relationship with the Earth.  This enables them to make appropriate, informed lifestyle decisions, so that they can live in harmony with the natural world.

What is Earth Education?

Earth education is a process of coming to understand and develop feelings for the natural world.  Earth education focuses on 3 areas:

The Head - understanding ecological processes;

The Heart - developing feelings for the natural world

The Hands - making lifestyle decisions to match the new found knowledge and feelings

Earth Education programs are filled with 'hands on' learning experiences, which instill the desired knowledge and feelings.  The Programs have been developed over time by a team of educators from around the world, including Accompany Outdoors staff.

The programs start in the classroom before the residential experience and continue on return to school, tying in with subjects such as Science, Environment Studies, Art, English and Geography.
