Tennant's Gold

The Tennant's Gold program aims to bring Australian Children's literature alive as we 'live' the adventure of this carefully selected story.

This adventure involves that students keeping a journal of thier four day experience which can then be used back at school to stimulate creative writing, and as a spring board for further exploration into issues raised in the story.

The experience is designed to:

  • Encourage children to enjoy reading, to read imaginatively and record their personal stories.
  • Get in touch with the past; investigating local history, Indigenous Australian Cultures and life and times of the Gold Rush era.
  • Build a sense of place and time.
  • Give children the opportunity to experience the excitement and thrill of exploring special natural places.
  • Immerse students in our natural environment and help them make a personal connection with the natural world.
  • Explore relationships between self and others by reflecting on actions of the characters int he story.
  • Provide a fun, safe and exciting outdoor experience.
  • Introduce camping and develop communial living skills.
